Interview after the training “How to be more creative in less than 2 hours”

Have you wondered what would be one skill you need to develop in 2021? If you ask me this question, my answer would be: creativity. This is something we should all become better in! I had the pleasure to deliver a session on Creativity in the end of January. And I still see a lot of confusion what creativity is.

In the attached interview, I had shared some of my findings about creativity.

Creativity should be purposeful

It might be fun to solve solutions creatively, but if you don’t have a clear purpose than you might end up not being creative. We all have a tendency to use brainstorming as a creative approach to come up with better ideas. The fact of the matter is that this is simply not enough. There are many more ingredients needed to be creative. And only applying one technique will make you feel good, but the result won’t be very innovative.

And the purpose of solving problems creative is also to be innovative. To demonstrate the point, think about the issue of finding a domain name of your site. You might create a list of few options and go with one of them. Now, lets add constrains. What if they have already taken the thing you want to do or who you are?

If you are a trainer and you want your domain to be trainer.com, this might be already taken. If you are a businessperson and you want to write about business, you might not be surprised to find out that Business.com is also taken. Now, you have the task to come up with a different yet distinguished name.

What would you do?

You can have a list of five names, ask five people about their opinion, and just go with one. But would this approach provide you not only a creative name but also innovative name? In the training we talked about this, and for many people this wouldn’t be the right approach to reach out to innovative solutions.

That is why it is very important not to use a technique, but to apply other ingredients to reach your purpose.
